Mercer Hits Milestone On Theodore Roosevelt President Library

One year after groundbreaking, Mercer Mass Timber (MMT) has announced the completion of the first phase of construction on the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, a future cultural destination located in the heart of the North Dakota Badlands, and the largest mass timber project in the state to date.

Phase one construction began one year ago and is centered on the museum building and its dramatic roof structure of sweeping curves and complex geometry. The roof, designed to echo the rolling topography of the Badlands, required precisely engineered connections and joints, supported by steel wrapped in wood to maintain a seamless timber look.

The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is the largest use of mass timber in North Dakota to date. MMT is supplying approximately 1,800 m³ of CLT and glulam for the 93,000 sq. ft. structure, including custom glulam connections supporting the museum’s curved roof.

The final mass timber delivery date is scheduled for June 1, 2025, marking the official start of phase two of construction, which will include Mercer Mass Timber contributing canopies designed to support photovoltaic panels—expanding mass timber use in outdoor architectural features.

“This project is a testament to what visionary design combined with advanced mass timber engineering can create,” says Ricardo Brites, Director of Engineering & VDC at Mercer Mass Timber. “From custom made glulam connections to a curved roof profile that’s as complex as it is beautiful, this project sets a new bar for civic architecture.”

Incorporating mass timber is a means to honor Theodore Roosevelt’s enduring legacy of conservation with a beautiful nature-forward design. Mass Timber also offers innovative construction advantages, including 25–40% lower carbon emissions, faster installation, and strong fire and earthquake resistance for enhanced safety.

The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is set to open on July 4, 2026, and every living president is anticipated to be in attendance.

Jason Ringblom Now Leads LP Building Solutions

Jason Ringblom Now Leads LP Building Solutions

LP Building Solutions Taps Jason Ringblom As President

LP Building Solutions (LP) has announced the appointment of Executive Vice President, General Manager of Siding Jason Ringblom to the newly created role of President, overseeing all manufacturing and commercial operations, effective April 7, 2025.

This leadership transition is part of LP’s long-term succession planning, ensuring continuity of strong leadership and positioning the company for its next phase of growth. With this new structure, LP has eliminated the North American Business General Manager positions, and Ringblom will continue reporting to LP Chair & CEO Brad Southern.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am pleased to have Jason serve as President and look forward to working with him in this new role,” says Southern. “Having served as General Manager for both LP’s OSB and siding businesses, I am confident that Jason is the ideal leader to help drive LP’s ongoing strategic transformation.”

Since 2018, LP has pursued a successful strategy of growth, specialization, and value creation. Building on this foundation, it is now streamlining operations by integrating siding and OSB manufacturing and consolidating all market-facing activities under a single leader, Ringblom. This new structure enhances efficiency, strengthens customer engagement, and accelerates long-term strategic execution.

By integrating operations, LP will better leverage its product portfolio—optimizing siding, structural solutions, and OSB as a cohesive offering to enhance its competitive advantage. This approach simplifies processes, making it easier for customers to do business with LP while improving service and responsiveness. The new structure also increases agility, enabling faster, more informed decision-making and optimized resource allocation. However, there are no immediate plans to change financial reporting segments.

As President, Ringblom will lead this transition, defining the new structure, appointing leadership, and aligning processes to ensure a seamless integration. As part of these changes, LP General Manager of South America Frederick Price will now report to Ringblom.

With more than 20 years at LP, including eight years on the Executive Team, Ringblom brings extensive expertise in sales, marketing, and operations. Having progressed through key leadership roles at the company—including General Sales Manager, Vice President of OSB Sales & Marketing, Executive Vice President & General Manager of OSB, and most recently, Executive Vice President & General Manager of Siding—he is well-equipped to drive this transformation. His collaborative leadership style, strategic vision, and ability to drive results position LP for continued success.

In addition to Ringblom’s appointment as President, LP has also appointed Craig Sichling to the newly created role of Senior Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer and named three new Vice Presidents, including Vice President of National Accounts Jeremy Sellers, Vice President of Field Sales Mitch Kingston, and Vice President of Supply Chain & Customer Experience Cody Austell. These changes are designed to strengthen LP’s commitment to serving customers, ensuring the company continues to deliver high-quality building products and innovative solutions to meet their evolving needs.

TP&EE 2026 Begins Exhibitor Renewal

TP&EE 2026 Begins Exhibitor Renewal

TP&EE 2026 Begins Exhibitor Renewal

Organizers of the Timber Processing & Energy Expo (TP&EE) announced that the exhibitor renewal program begins this April for the biennial event, to be held September 23-25, 2026 at the Portland Exposition Center in Portland, Ore.

TP&EE 2024, held in September 2024, attracted 1,000 non-exhibitor personnel and nearly as many exhibitor personnel. About 80 wood producer companies sent personnel to comb the aisles of 180 exhibitor companies that were displaying technologies on 45,000 square feet of booth space in Hall E on the Portland Expo grounds.

In an exhibitors’ survey taken immediately after the 2024 show, 70% of exhibitors said they had confirmed an order or probably would related to discussions at the show.

TP&EE is produced by Hatton-Brown Expositions and hosted by Panel World, Timber Processing, and Wood Bioenergy magazines.

The 2026 event will be the seventh conducted by Hatton-Brown, since assuming the long-running Portland show. “It’s a much more consolidated industry in the Northwest than it was, say in the 1980s,” comments Show Director Rich Donnell. “But it’s still highly relevant, and we feel an obligation to deliver the event to the Northwest wood products community, where some of the best operators are still going strong, and several new mills are coming up.”

Larger exhibitors in the 2024 event were emailed the first week of April with renewal options for the 2026 show, options for smaller exhibitors will follow in the coming months. Sponsorship programs will also be announced soon.

    Goin’ Back To LIGNA

Article by Rich Donnell, Editor-In-Chief, Panel World

The Ligna biennial show in Hannover, Germany, May 26-30, marks the 50th year since the first Ligna was held in 1975. Representing Panel World, I’ve gone to every one since 1989. But let’s don’t go that far back; let’s look at some of the highlights of Lignas in more recent years:

2011: Wood bioenergy came to the forefront, as the world considered the future of industrial wood pellets as a fuel source for electricity and district heating. In fact a specific hall was devoted to wood bioenergy technologies, and several traditional wood-based panel companies had a second exhibit there. Oh yes, another subject of the 2011 event was the “minor” issue of the U.S. coming out of the Great Recession brought on by the subprime mortgage crisis.

2013: The U.S. had come out of the recession by now and several North America companies—GP, LP, Tolko, etc.— were turning on the production faucets at OSB plants. As a sign of the improving economy, American companies sent numerous representatives to this Ligna in search of the latest technologies. The first Russian OSB plant in the Petrozavodsk capital of the Republic of Karelia had produced its first board in April.

2015: Siempelkamp celebrated the 30th anniversary of the launch of its ContiRoll continuous press in 1985. Hexion Inc. exhibited under its new name, transitioning from Momentive Specialty Chemicals. Raute emphasized new technologies in veneer composing, panel repair and revealed several LVL (laminated veneer lumber) machinery orders.

2017: Wood-based panel production technology exhibits moved into Hall 27 from Hall 26 for this Ligna. But of more importance was the subject of crosslaminated timber as a possibility for the U.S. Russ Vaagen of Vaagen Brothers Lumber stopped by Ligna and the Panel World booth after visiting a nearby CLT plant. Russ would ultimately build a CLT plant of his own in Spokane, Wash. USNR displayed a new Ventek green end scanner, which was significant because USNR had purchased Ventek the previous year. Meinan showed a video of its new automatic peeling line at Swanson Group’s new plywood plant in Oregon. The show proved especially useful for the promotion of the new Panel Alliance team, consisting of Imal, Pal and Globus among others.

2019: Press belt manufacturer IPCO (the former Sandvik) revealed its new identity. Biele again showed one of the most attractive booths, while discussing its technologies at its Innovation Corner. It was another good show for EWS North America, though Keith Mays of EWS commented, “It was clear that wood panel manufacturers are concerned about the potential impact of trade disputes on the economy in the U.S.” Sound familiar?

2021: No Ligna, thanks to the COVID pandemic.

2023: Dieffenbacher celebrated 150 years and announced the formation of an Energy division. Wood fiber insulation was the topic of much discussion, especially at the Grenzebach booth. SMARTECH appeared on the scene to give Ligna its first taste of Artificial Intelligence.

2025: It’s about to happen as you read this, and given the election of a new U.S. president, and his aggressive approach to trade diplomacy, the theme may well be—borrowing a line from the movie Jurassic Park and actor Samuel L. Jackson as he prepared to reboot the system—“Hold on to your butts!”
