Plummer Forest Products

Panel World magazine Associate Editor Jay Donnell travels to Post Falls, Idaho to visit Plummer Forest Products. When a fire devastated Rayonier Inc.’s sawmill in Plummer, Idaho in 1998, 125 workers had no idea what they were going to do next. That’s when Todd Brinkmeyer, who had grown up in his family’s sawmill business, stepped in with a new vision, purchased the remaining components in 1999 and built a new mill that started up in 2001 called Plummer Forest Products. It was the only small log stud mill in Idaho and it allowed the majority of the employees from the previous operation to keep their jobs. In 2006, Brinkmeyer sold the Plummer Forest Products sawmill to Stimson Lumber Co. Brinkmeyer was out of the sawmill business but his Plummer Forest Products (PFP) business continued to invest in timber assets, which led to the development of a mobile whole log chipping operation and a PFP trucking fleet, both of which remain in operation today.

TP&EE 2018

More than 1,600 wood products producer personnel and 1,300 equipment exhibitor personnel registered for the fourth Timber Processing & Energy Expo that was held October 17-19 at the Portland Exposition Center in Portland, Oregon. More than 110 wood products companies, including 26 veneer-plywood-EWP-composite board firms, representing hundreds of individual mill site operations, had personnel in attendance. “The Portland show has always been heavy to the lumber industry, but we’ve continued to push more involvement from the panel and engineered wood products sector as well,” comments Rich Donnell, show director. “Our goal going in was to reach 20% of the parent companies coming from the panel/EWP sector. We actually topped 28%, and we expect that number to increase in future shows.”
